you might remember that i was flown out to jersey by my friend breanne this spring to photograph madelyn’sfirst birthday festivities. well, i hadn’t had a chance to start sharing the (many) photos from the weekend, but yesterday was breanne’s birthday so this is like a belated birthday present to her 🙂
plenty of photos were taken over that weekend. this is the first of them. i flew into jersey on a red-eye friday morning (great in theory, not so much in reality – i didn’t sleep AT ALL the entire flight. grrr), so after a looooong nap we grabbed some balloons and headed out to the jersey shore. i’d seen another local photog do a shoot out on the boardwalk (an engagement shoot, i believe) and i was dying to do one myself. we don’t get boardwalks like this out in the bay area. there were plenty of colorful, fun photo opportunities and i had a total blast taking these photos! madelyn is just about the cutest baby EVER. seriously. LOOK AT HER!!! in fact, every other person who passed by us commented on how cute she was. and look at those gorgeous eyes! no photoshopping done whatsoever here – those are all natural, baby!
oh, and to your photog geeks. breanne had a borrowed 50mm 1.2 lens for her camera, so i ended up shooting a few of these on my nikon, and the majority on her canon since that lens is super GODLY. seriously. i have lens envy…and it *almost* makes me want to go canon! that bokeh you get from the 1.2? mmmmmm….it’s BUTTAH! </end photog geek talk>
so anyways. here are the photos!
the girl loooooves her lambie….so cute 🙂
i LOOOOOOVED her tutu. so so sooooo cute! i think breanne got it on etsy 🙂 and those colors? YUM.
the whole ensemble was just tooooo cute!
ok, these crack me up. clowns terrify me generally, but i had to pose her in front of this giant one. the look she’s giving it is priceless!
when i saw this balloon dart game, i knew it would make a PERFECT background for photos. luckily, the girl at the booth was kind enough to let madelyn sit on the counter.
my absolute favorite from the day, and possibly the entire weekend:
one of me in action:
and one of me being a dork because i’m on the jersey shore and it was my first time seeing the atlantic ocean!
speaking of jersey shore…while on a vegas trip last winter, my friends and i kept mocking the show and joked about it. so when i found out i was going not only to jersey, but also the jersey shore, i decided that i was going to find myself a real-life guido/guidette. unfortunately, i didn’t see anyone from the show or anyone resembling any of the characters from it. LOL. boo hiss. the closest i came was a spanish-speaking tourist on the subway in the city who just happened to have that look. oh well.
anyways. thanks madelyn and breanne for a fun afternoon and weekend! stay turned for part 2 (the actual birthday party – breanne did SUCH a fantastic job decorating for it!) and part 3 (day-after shoot). plenty more photos of this cutie to come!
